We have quite a few big writing projects in third grade. Our biggest project, and most fun so far, has been writing a personal narrative and making it into a book! A personal narrative is a story about oneself, and these kiddos definitely loved being able to write about themselves and an exciting time in their lives. What the students don’t realize we are doing while working on these, is that they are practicing many of the skills we have been learning in our writing core. These steps include brainstorming topics, organizing and planning their writing, drafting, revising and editing, and drafting for a last time. The bonus step with this writing, is they get to see themselves become published authors. The students have loved this and are very excited to see and share this final product with families and friends!
