Taylor Warren

In Freshman English, students have just begun an exciting new unit on Of Mice and Men, where they will focus on identifying themes and gathering textual evidence to support their ideas. Since this classic novel was first published in 1937, it’s essential for students to understand the historical and social context in which it was written. To build this background knowledge, students collaborate with a partner to research a topic related to the 1930s and create a presentation to share with the class. This hands-on approach not only deepens their understanding of the novel but also helps them develop essential skills such as research, critical thinking, and public speaking. By presenting their findings and answering questions from their peers, students strengthen their confidence and communication skills—valuable tools for life beyond high school!

As an educator, it’s incredibly rewarding to see students engaged, supporting one another, and sharing new insights. We are ready to dive into Of Mice and Men!
