Science gives students the opportunity to learn through experimenting. In fifth grade science, we planted wheat seeds to see what a plant would need to grow. Half of our plants were put in clear bags and half of them were put in black bags that would not let light in. We allowed the plants to grow for approximately one week. When we took the plants out of the bags, both plants grew. The plants in the bag lacked color due to not absorbing light. Once taken out of the bags the plants began absorbing light and appeared green. We have continued to water the wheat and will be fed to chickens to help students understand the transfer of energy through the environment.
