In October the Benton Community Spanish Club hosted a special Día de los Muertos activity at the Newhall Library, bringing the rich traditions of the holiday to local children and families. Spanish Club volunteers read a book about the significance of Día de los Muertos, explaining how the holiday is a time to honor and remember loved ones who have passed. The engaging story introduced children to cultural elements such as ofrendas (altars), marigolds, and the symbolic meaning of sugar skulls.

Following the reading, children participated in several hands-on activities led by the volunteers, including decorating their own Día de los Muertos masks. One of the most exciting parts of the event was cookie decorating, where kids designed cookies with vibrant icing and sprinkles. The event provided a fun and educational experience, allowing children to learn about an important cultural tradition while enjoying creative activities. The Benton Community Spanish Club was thrilled with the turnout and hopes to continue sharing cultural celebrations with the community in the future.
