On November 11, the Atkins Elementary third grade students participated in the Veterans Day program at the Benton Community Middle/High School in Van Horne. Students listened to speaker CSM Peter Moeller, from the Army National Guard and sang their Veterans Day songs. Upon returning to the classroom, students created a historical timeline showing the important events about Veterans Day, listened to books about Veterans Day, and read a Veterans Day book with a partner. The students learned the history and importance of Veterans Day. With gratitude being our focus in our CharacterStrong curriculum this month, this was a great way to show gratitude to all those who served to protect our freedoms.
