Tammy Franck, Kindergarten Teacher, Atkins Elementary
The power of song and movement in learning is very impactful and can be seen daily in our kindergarten classroom! Children learn in many ways and the kinesthetic way of learning is very motivating and engaging! Using song and movement provides opportunities for kids to expend energy and have fun! Currently, the kindergarteners are learning to count in sequence, adding song and movement increases participation and enjoyment to the task. Kindergarten is also learning to discriminate and produce rhyming words. Incorporating movement and finding songs that enhance the lesson can provide more practice in a fun way! Kindergarten is also learning to properly write the letters of the alphabet, listening to songs that include air writing the letters through movement helps transfer learning when working on handwriting and proper formation. There are many modes of learning and giving students opportunities to move has many benefits!
