Visual supports benefit all students. Some students learn best by seeing. Visuals can help students communicate their thoughts, wants, and needs with others. Visual supports include but are not limited to pictures, lists, schedules, social narratives, graphic organizers, and even timers. Visual supports help teach routines, reinforce expected and unexpected behaviors, and help support student independence. Visuals can offer choices to students. Visual supports can be individualized or generalized for the whole class or school. Visual supports help make school more accessible for all.
