Marisa Terry, Kindergarten Teacher, Keystone Elementary
The kindergarten classrooms at Keystone and Atkins have piloted the use of smart boards in the classroom. With the implementation of the new technology I have seen an increase in student engagement on the carpet. Students are eager to come up and demonstrate their learning and thought processes. On the interactive board students can do things such as interact with texts by highlighting the book, solve math problems with images or drawn pictures, or write sentences on writing lines. We are still exploring all of the apps and tools to help enhance student engagement, but their resilience and patience as I work through it has been amazing to see. They also love to show me how it’s done or give suggestions for ways to solve my problem.
