The EET (Expanding Expression Tool) is a multi-sensory approach which helps students with oral expression, vocabulary, written expression, organization, stating functions of objects, writing from prior knowledge, autobiographies/ biographies and summarizing.
Students use a color coded system symbol to organize their writing. Using each strand, students describe the category the item belongs to, the purpose of the object, what the item looks like, what the object is made of, the parts of the object and its location.
Using this system assists students with staying on topic, as well as organizing their thoughts. Many students have found success with this approach and are comfortable with the writing process.
