Before winter break, students were stepping into the shoes of ancient Egyptian pharaohs in a fun cross-curricular project combining history and art. As part of their world history unit on ancient Egypt, students were learning about Egyptian beliefs in the afterlife and the significance of tombs. Working with Mr. Platt, Norway Intermediate’s art teacher, each student designed their own tomb, complete with hieroglyphics, treasures, and scenes reflecting their life—just as real pharaohs did thousands of years ago.

This hands-on project allows students to creatively express what they’ve learned about Egyptian culture while reinforcing key historical concepts. Working together, history and art teachers are helping students understand not only the greatness of Egyptian tombs but also the symbolism behind them. By merging creativity with historical knowledge, this project brings ancient Egypt to life in an engaging and memorable way.
