Language evolves with time. New words come along to replace old ones in a never ending cycle. To give students some insight on just how much the language they speak every day has changed, we’re kicking off second semester English by focusing on a type of language everyone is familiar with: slang.

Rad and fire mean the same thing? Drip and fleek? Was there ever another skibidi? Well, these sophomores are getting ready to find out! They’re tasked with choosing one slang term from the 1920s, the 2020s, and every decade in between to define, use in a sentence, determine scenarios when these words would/would not be appropriate to use, and—finally—create a digital slang dictionary with all of their chosen words!

The first semester sophomores enjoyed this project a lot, so I can’t wait to see how it goes with the second semester sophomores!
