The Benton girls golf team is coming off one of their better seasons in recent memory. Not only did Bobcat freshman, Halle Sobaski, finish 6th at the 3A state golf tournament, the girls team had a record of 40-27 while finishing third at the conference tournament. In finishing third in the challenging WaMaC Conference, both Halle Sobaski and Hailey Suiter finished 1st Team All-Conference. The Bobcats also return all five varsity golfers from last year's team.
Although it is only December, the team is gearing up for the upcoming season by utilizing golf simulators and strengthening team bonds. Working in simulators allows the golfers to refine their skills and track their performance, even when they can't practice outdoors due to the lovely Iowa winters. This approach helps them maintain their swing mechanics, course management skills, and overall golf game in a controlled environment.
The Bobcat girls golf team returns everyone from last year's team, while also adding in a few freshmen along with others who want to play golf this spring. With a core group of girls in place, the team is also focusing on bonding activities. These activities are key to building trust, communication, and camaraderie among team members, creating a positive and supportive team culture. Stronger team dynamics often translate into better collaboration on the course, which can lead to improved performance during the season.
By combining player-led practices in simulators with team-building efforts, the Benton girls’ golf team is setting themselves up for success in the upcoming season. Is it spring yet?
