Benton Community Middle Schoolers recently participated in their annual pumpkin decorating competition. Each 5th block was given two pumpkins to decorate. As a class, they had to brainstorm ideas, be effective communicators, and collaborate as a group. Reagan Furler stated, “My favorite part about the pumpkin decorating competition was figuring out how to recreate the inspiration picture with the pumpkins we selected.” Hayden Wiltfang stated, “The hardest part of the decorating was the paint wouldn’t always stay on.” Despite various obstacles, every 5th block class went above and beyond with their pumpkins. The four categories included Scariest, Silliest, Most Creative, and Overall Winner.  The winners were announced on Thursday, October 31st and each winning group received a prize. A huge thank you to the Thompson family and Mr. Ryan Junge for donating the pumpkins to the middle school. Without their donation, this fun, memorable event would not be possible.

In Math, we have been learning about rates and finding the percent of a number. We have been able to make connections with finding the sales tax on a receipt and also finding the tip amount from a restaurant. Students are making connections with what they learn in the classroom and how it applies to everyday life.
