My name is Dawn Morris and I am the Food Service Director for Benton Community. This is my 11th school year with the district. My husband and I along with our children, Craig (20), Janelle (18) and Isaac (16) moved from the Philadelphia suburbs in 2012 and are now enjoying the peaceful, Midwest lifestyle in Van Horne.

Benton Community & Central Lutheran will be on a 2 hour delay this morning, Friday, March 10. No morning activities.

My name is Christine Neff and I am a preschool teacher at Atkins Elementary. I have been a preschool teacher for 23 years and 4 of them have been here at Benton. Being a Bobcat has been such an amazing experience. I live in Atkins with my husband Chris and my two children Colsen (5th grade) and Annalyn(3rd grade). I was born and raised in the Quad Cities where I earned my Bachelors in early childhood education from St. Ambrose University. When I am not at school, most of my time is dedicated to my family. My children are in many activities that I love supporting them in.

Benton Community & Central Lutheran will dismiss at noon today, Thursday, March 9th due to the impending weather and road conditions.
No afternoon Preschool.
No afternoon or evening activities.

Congratulations to the winners of the Respect Week Coloring Contest - Duncan, Olive, Kenley, Claire and Kiernan. Way to go!!!

Hi! My name is Erin Van Sickle; this is my first year at Benton. I am currently the Math Interventionist at Atkins and I have loved every second of it! I have loved getting to know all the students and seeing them grow in their learning, and seeing their personalities! When I am not at Atkins, I can be found with my dog, Magnus, snuggling up and reading a new book!

School Bus Driver Appreciation Dinner & New Bus Driver Recruitment Dinner: Benton Community School District is looking for new bus drivers. If you have any interest, please join us for dinner to learn more and meet the current transportation staff on Wednesday, March 29 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Van Horne Community Center, 558 1st Avenue, Van Horne.

For Respect Week, Hayden Bange, Emma Bange, Belle Werner, Kayla Johnson, Avary Tjelmeland, Mallary Howard, and Tegan Bishop went to Keystone Elementary and Atkins Elementary and read books to the elementary students. What a great way to build a connection across grade levels. #BeABobcat #APlaceToBelong

I am enjoying teaching my 8th year of 3 year old preschool at Atkins Elementary. I love to hang out with my dog and take walks. I grew up an Indianola Indian, but I am very thankful to have been adopted into the Bobcat family.

Good luck to our Girls Basketball Team as they compete in the 3A Girls State Basketball Championship Game tonight at 8:00 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines!! GO BOBCATS!!!

Today is Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day! Thanks to Kent Meyer and Zach Lazenby for all you do! We appreciate both of you!

My name is Alyssa Schmuecker, and I am a K-3 Music and Technology teacher at both Atkins and Keystone Elementary. I am also the music director for the Fall Musical at the high school. This is my 18th year teaching in the district, and I was a 2000 graduate of Benton Community! I live in Watkins with my husband and our two children. I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

Hi, my name is Robyn Cherveny. I have been teaching for fifteen years. This is my tenth year at Benton and all of those years have been spent teaching at Atkins Elementary. I have taught kindergarten for nine years and this is my first year venturing up to second grade! A few facts about me: I have a son who is five and attends AK in Atkins, and my family lives on our century+ farm outside of Van Horne where we farm corn and soybeans. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, being outdoors, and attending my son’s activities. I am very passionate about health and fitness, and the farm life! Benton Community is a wonderful place to live. I am grateful to work in an environment with amazing staff, families, and students in a place where everyone feels like they belong. Go Bobcats!!

Benton Community & Central Lutheran are canceled today, Thursday, February 23. Many county roads are slick and gravel roads are ice covered, causing unsafe conditions for the safety of our buses, students, and staff.
