University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) Foundations is a literacy intervention that is used for students in kindergarten-sixth grade at Benton Community. UFLI Foundations is an explicit and systematic program that introduces students to the foundational reading skills necessary for proficient reading. It follows a carefully developed scope and sequence designed to ensure that students acquire each skill needed in a logical sequence and learn to apply each skill with automaticity and confidence. The program can be used in whole class instruction or small group instruction in the primary grades or intervention groups in any grade.
UFLI Foundations balances between structure and responsiveness to students’ needs. The program provides many opportunities for students to practice, along with building them up to independence. It provides teachers with detailed lesson plans, a PowerPoint slide deck to accompany each lesson, and materials for home practice or center activities. UFLI has been a great addition to our resources for students at Benton!
