WiFi on School Buses

The Benton Community School District received statewide and national recognition this past school year based on a project to install WiFi on the school buses. Beginning in the 2013-14 school year the district installed the technology on four of the district's 18 school buses. Students have access during normal bus routes and during activity related trips. The district plans to add the WiFi to all of the buses on regular routes for the 2015-16 school year. The original installation cost was $3,000, in addition to a monthly Internet charge. The district has committed an additional $11,000 in resources to support equipping all of the school buses. The 7-12th grade students have iPads that have been provided through the 1:1 initiative in the District. This project provides additional support in keeping internet access available to students before and after school while riding on school buses. The effort of the district in this area has been well received by students, staff, and parents.
